One look at John Denver’s longtime home in Aspen, Colorado, and you could pretty easily guess what he did for a living, even if you didn’t know he was the legendary American country singer responsible for ditties like “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” and “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” and a few very memorable Muppet Show guest appearances, besides. The 6,000-square-foot Rocky Mountain climb pretty much embodies everything Denver loved to sing about: mountain vistas with eagles and horses in the distance, setting up with a “fine wife” and practicing the fiddle. Listed for$10.75M with the same agent who handled the $3.68M sale of the place after Denver’s death in 1997, the house was built by the entertainer and activist and his first wife, Annie, in the early ’70s.
Denver added to it multiple times over the years, and while the current owners had the living room expanded, they tell the Wall Street Journal that the place is otherwise pretty much as he left it. Sitting on 7.6 acres with what the listing describes as “beautiful green lawns or pasture for horses,” the main house has six bedrooms with “beautiful woodwork” and “intimate spaces” throughout, four wood-burning fireplaces, multiple decks, an outdoor swimming pool, and a “fun built in barbeque area.” That, and a guest house on a separately deeded lot, with a “gurgling” “red mountain ditch” between the two.
