Aspen, Woody Creek: Colorado
Aspen might get all of the glitz, but it’s Woody Creek that boasts the most expensive ZIP code in Colorado.
That’s according to Forbes magazine’s annual “America’s Most Expensive ZIP Codes” report released Wednesday, showing Woody Creek with the seventh-priciest ZIP code — 81656 — in the United States, based on its median home-price listing of $4,953,269. Aspen’s 81611 ZIP code was ranked No. 15, with a median listing of $4,015,231, Forbes said.
“Perhaps the most surprising ZIP code to make the top 10 is Woody Creek, Colo. 81656 (No. 7), an affluent enclave just north of Aspen in Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley,” Forbes reported. “With 17 single-family homes for sale at a median price of $4,953,269 (no condominiums), Woody Creek bests Aspen 81611 (No. 15, median price: $4,015,232); the two ZIPs are the only Colorado ones to crack the top 50. Journalist Hunter S. Thompson lived in Woody Creek, as did ‘60 Minutes’ host Ed Bradley, and actor Don Johnson. Dianne Feinstein has a vacation home that overlooks Woody Creek. … Nearby, in 81611 Aspen, hedge-fund billionaire John Paulson owns a home formerly owned by Prince Bandar bin Sultan of Saudi Arabia. Neighbors on Aspen’s prestigious Red Mountain include hedge-fund billionaire Daniel Och, retail billionaire Leslie Wexner and oil billionaire Sid Bass.”
Snowmass (81654) and Snowmass Village (81615) ranked Nos. 89 and 149 respectively, with median home prices of $2,089,114 and $1,614,356.
